Read earlier this week where someone decided that May is bicycle month or something like that. In honor of that, as well as the need to get off my ass, a coworker and I decided to ride our bikes into work today. Now I'm not exactly one to exercise regularly, or even infrequently for that matter. So if you are one of those that have thought about doing something similar but have talked yourself out of it I thought I'd share that it was actually enjoyable.
The route we took was six miles one way. Plopping it into Google Maps, the estimated drive time for the same route was 20 minutes. We did it in 35 with a stop off at a 7-11 about midway through. I'm not keeling over and in fact I felt more awake today than I would most any other day I come in.
If you have the ability to ride your bike to work you should try it at least one. Don't let distance deceive you either. I actually live 14 miles from where I work. I drove over to my coworkers house and left from there. So there are ways to make it do-able.
You can save the planet, cut back on gas, and all that jazz, which is fine, but the real kicker is that you get in more exercise before work than most would all week - and you have fun while doing it.
So go ahead give it a try. If you do let me know what you think.
